ICSC, Redbook Sales Week Ending October 17

Sales appear to be gradually inching higher. According to the ICSC, chain store sales increased 0.2% for the week ending October 17, following up on a 0.6% gain in the previous week. Cooler than normal weather was reportedly a significant support to sales in the week, only partially offset by rising gasoline prices. This was the fourth consecutive weekly gain in ICSC's sales index, although it has yet to fully reverse the large drop that occurred five weeks ago. Meanwhile, Redbook's month-over-month sales figures softened, up 1.8% compared with up 1.9% previously. Still, this exceeds the 1.5% growth target based on retailers' plans....
