May 2018 -- OMB Bulletin No. 18-03 has designated two new CBSAs: Pearsall, TX (micropolitan statistical area) and San Antonio-New Braunfels-Pearsall, TX (combined statistical area). No datasets yet report these areas.

In response, we have declared two new geo codes:

  • IUSA_OPEA  = Pearsall, TX Micropolitan Statistical Area
  • IUSA_CSSNP = San Antonio-New Braunfels-Pearsall, TX Combined Statistical Area

Specifically, the U.S. Office of Management and Budget (Bulletin No. 18-03) wrote:

Application of the 2010 Standards for Delineating Metropolitan and Micropolitan Statistical Areas to Census Bureau population estimates for July 1, 2015 and July 1, 2016 results in designation of one new micropolitan statistical area and one new combined statistical area. The complete lists of statistical areas incorporating this change are provided in the appendix to this bulletin.
