Geo Change: Norway subnational - 2017 and 2018

Summary
Municipalities in Norway are subject to annual redefinition, which can have an effect on larger areas.
Detail

As of 1 January 2017:

  • The three municipalities of Sandefjord (0706), Andebu (0719) and most of Stokke (0720) were merged to a new municipality, Sandefjord (0710).
  • The balance of the area of Stokke (0720), of 3 km² and 2,200 persons, was transferred from Stokke (0720) to Tønsberg (0704).

As of 1 January 2018:

  • The counties Sor-Trøndelag (16) and Nord-Trøndelag (17) have merged into Trøndelag (50).
  • County Trøndelag (50) has expanded, since it now contains the former municipality  Leksvik (1718).
  • Municipalities have merged (citation):
    • Holmestrand (0702) and Hof (0714) are now Holmestrand (0715).
    • Larvik (0709) and Lardal (0728) are now Larvik (0712).
    • Nøtterøy (0722) and Tjøme (0723) are now Færder (0729).
    • Rissa (1624) and Leksvik (1718) are now Indre Fosen (5054).
    • And possibly Trondheim (1601), Steinkjer (1702), and Stjørdal (1714).

In response:

  • We have created a new geo code for Trøndelag (50): INOR_TRN.
