TitleUsing Data Buffet: Schema for XML basket output
AuthorKarl Zandi
Question

Data Buffet provides an XML file format for basket output.

Answer

Data Buffet offers numerous basket output formats to suit different needs. When configuring a basket, you can set the output file type (Options » File » File Type) to "Text XML - XML."

To assist in interpreting the output, we have created a schema using the Microsoft XSD Inference 1.0 tool (xsd.exe). The schema is attached to this article (depending on your browser, it may appear as an inlined document) and is also stored in the "Reference Files" section of DataBuffet.com.

Background

XSD (XML Schema Definition), a Recommendation of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), specifies how to formally describe the elements in an Extensible Markup Language (XML) document. This description can be used to verify that each item of content in a document adheres to the description of the element in which the content is to be placed.

In general, a schema is an abstract representation of an object's characteristics and relationship to other objects. An XML schema represents the interrelationship between the attributes and elements of an XML object (for example, a document or a portion of a document).
