Argentina: Retail Sales Index

The index that tracks nominal sales at Buenos Aires' largest shopping centers grew 30.3% y/y in February, down from 42.1% in January (revised figure). At the beginning of the year, the statistics office introduced methodological changes in the retail sales index amid the release of a new consumer price index. The new consumer price index shows higher inflation than the previous one. Accordingly, retail sales in real terms (after adjusting for inflation) will show softer growth with the new methodology. Though year-ago figures are not available, real retail sales likely showed weak growth in February.
