Release Information

The CSO produces quarterly average housing price statistics for new and second-hand properties, houses and apartments. Geographic level includes the nation, five sub-national regions, including Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick, and Waterford, and an 'other areas' geography.

Average house prices are derived from data supplied by the mortgage lending agencies on loans approved by them rather than loans paid. In comparing house prices figures from one period to another, account should be taken of the fact that changes in the mix of houses (including apartments) will affect the average figures.

Average house price is a simple average based on the mortgages approved in that quarter. It excludes cash transactions. Information is gathered from lending institutions on a quarterly basis.

Data is subject to revision.
