For Malaysia, population by sex, age and state (ten-year census from 2000); by sex, age and state (annual intercensal estimates from 1970); by age and state (annual from 2010).
The annual population data are mid-year estimates.
Mid-year population projection are based on the Population and Housing Census data which had been revised for under-enumeration from the Census Coverage Evaluation Survey.
Sex Ratio refers to the number of males per 100 females.
The base data for population estimation are obtained from the recent census figures which have earlier been revised for under enumeration and adjusted for age misreporting. The post-censal estimates are prepared by adding the actual annual natural increase (i.e., the excess of births over deaths) for all residents plus international migration. For births and deaths, the figures are compiled from the civil registration records based on the date of occurrence and place of residence. The calculation of birth and death rates is made using the direct method. International migration figures used is based on entry permit issued by the Immigration Department.
The data are preliminary when first released and are revised annually.
