Motivation: Many countries report a residential sales price index (via national or private sources) but there is no uniformity in definition, base year, or length of history. Since 2011, the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas has produced an "International House Price Database" for 23 countries (members listed below) from 1975Q1.
Response: For international consistency, Moody's Analytics synthesizes multiple datasets to estimate homogeneous national HPIs for an enlarged set of countries. Where possible, we also estimate subnational indexes and average house prices. The price is expressed in the source's terms: in national currency, sometimes areal, with a uniform reference year.
