Question
For foreign exchange rate time series, what is Data Buffet's format for mnemonics and description metadata?
Answer
Principles:
- The quoting entity is expressed in the concept code. (This entity is usually, but not always, the national bank.)
- One of the two currency endpoints is expressed using the geo code. (This presupposes one currency per country.)
- Unnecessary segments are omitted from the concept code.
- Unit-descriptor uses ISO 3166 alpha-3 codes, not full names or local symbols.
Example pair:
- EXREUAUDUD.IEUZN = Foreign Exchange Rate: Australia, (AUD per EUR, NSA)
- EXREUEURUD.IAUS = Foreign Exchange Rate: Euro Zone, (EUR per AUD, NSA)
