Thursday, 16 Feb 2017 18:40 ET
By Phillip Thorne
Summary
August 2016 -- In the FDIC Quarterly Banking Profile spreadsheet of performance ratios by asset size group, the uppermost group has been split in two; for the metrics, four have been added and one terminated (31 quarterly series 1984-2016 discontinued, 92 new from 1984).
Detail

The discontinued series run from as early as 1984Q1 to 2016Q1. The new series start at 1996Q3 (for the new uppermost asset size group) and otherwise at 1984Q1. As before, figures are unitary counts (#) or percent ratios (%).

Asset size groups (previously five, now six)

  • Over $10 billion - Terminated
  • $10 to $250 billion - New
  • Over $250 billion - New

Metrics (previously 31, now 36)

  • Pretax return on equity
  • Institutions with year-over-year earnings gains - Terminated
  • Institutions with year-over-year income growth
  • Quarterly net operating revenue as a percent of average assets
  • Assets over 5 years as a percent of total assets (Call Reporters only)

The series reside in the historical catalog (United States » Banking » FDIC » Quarterly Banking Profile » Spreadsheets » Ratios by asset size group) and include, for example:

  • XBQABONIZ250BGQ.IUSA = Number of institutions reporting - Assets over $250 bil., (#)
  • XBQABSHIAZ250BQ.IUSA = Share of industry assets - Assets $10 bil. to $250 bil., (%)
  • XBQABPROEZ1BQ.IUSA   = Pretax return on equity - Assets $100 mil. to $1 bil., (%)
  • XBQABEGIZ100MQ.IUSA  = [DISCONTINUED] Institutions with year-over-year earnings gains - Assets under $100 mil., (%)

Because catalog locations are subject to change, the upper-right search box on DataBuffet.com provides a "find in catalog" mode that accepts a mnemonic.
