On July 13, 2010 the Council of the European Union approved Estonia’s request to join the euro area as of January 1, 2011.
On that date, the euro will replace the kroon at a fixed conversion rate of EUR 1 = EEK 15.6466. There will be a two-week period when both currencies are in circulation, with change normally provided in euro.
Consequently, economic indicators previously reported in kroon (national accounts, balance of payments, etc.) will be phased out by their sources and replaced by euro-denominated indicators. At this time no specific dates have been announced. We will announce the changes as they introduced by the sources and implemented on Data Buffet.
