The source writes (citation):
Following the release of the 2014/15-based Composite Consumer Price Index in April 2016 ... The series of value and volume indices of retail sales and restaurant receipts have been re-referenced, taking October 2014 to September 2015 as the new reference period and adopting the relevant components of the 2014/15-based Composite Consumer Price Index as deflators for compiling the volume indices of retail sales and restaurant receipts.
In response, we have archived the predecessor series (Oct2009-Sep2010=100, January 1981 to August 2016) by renaming with an "_10" specifier, by marking the metadata as "discontinued" and by segregating in the catalog. The replacements (Oct2014-Sep2015=100) start at October 2004. Series are paired in seasonally adjusted (SA) and not seasonally adjusted (NSA) terms.
The active series reside in the historical catalog (Hong Kong » Consumer » Retail sales index » 2014-2015=100) and the predecessors under the associated "discontinued" node. They include, for example:
- WRIRARO_10UM.IHKG = [DISCONTINUED] Retail Sales Index: All Retail Outlets - Value, (Oct 2009 to Sep 2010 = 100, NSA)
- WRIRORO_10UM.IHKG = [DISCONTINUED] All Retail Outlets - Volume, (Oct 2009 to Sep 2010 = 100, NSA)
- WRIRUM.IHKG = All retail outlets, (Index Oct2014 to Sep2015=100, NSA)
- WRJRUM.IHKG = All retail outlets, (Vol. Index Oct2014 to Sep2015=100, NSA)
Because catalog locations are subject to change, the upper-right search box on DataBuffet.com provides a "find in catalog" mode that accepts a mnemonic.
Please be aware that:
- With this rebasing, we have standardized and simplified the replacement concept codes. Legacy retrievals will now elicit the "series not found" message.
- The source updates the index base every five years.
- The Monthly Survey of Retail Sales (MRS) measures sales by type of outlet, not by commodity. The classification is HSIC Version 2.0, the localization of UN ISIC Rev. 2, but our extract omits this detail.
