Motivation: Our national source, the Central Statistical Bureau of Kuwait (CSB), reports GDP(E) components, but at an annual frequency and with limited history (starting at 2010). Previously, we extended our estimates only to 2000.
Old methodology
- Backfill (2000 to 2009) the active data (at 2010 prices) using the growth rates of the immediate predecessors (at 2000 prices).
- Frequency-convert from annual to quarterly using linear interpolation.
- Compute total GDP as an identity, viz., sum of the GDP(E) components.
New methodology
- For the components, backfill (1983 to 2010) using the growth rates of three predecessors (at 1984, 1995 and 2000 prices).
- Frequency-convert from annual to quarterly using linear interpolation.
- For total GDP, backfill (1965 to 1983) using growth rates of annual GDP from the World Bank.
- Frequency-convert from annual to quarterly using quarterly GDP from the CSB.
- Squeeze components to total to ensure additive integrity.
What you will see
- All periods revised.
- GDP(E) components gained 17 years of history (1983Q1 to 2000Q1).
- Total GDP gained 35 years of history (1965Q1 to 2000Q1).
Properties
- Measurement: Millions of Kuwaiti dinar at constant year-2010 prices (Mil. 2010 KWD)
- Adjustment: Seasonally adjusted annualized rate (SAAR)
- Geo coverage: Country
- Native frequency: Quarterly
- Start dates
- Total: 1965Q1
- Components: 1983Q1

Because catalog locations are subject to change, the upper-right search box on DataBuffet.com provides a "find in catalog" mode that accepts a mnemonic.
