Data Note: Sweden - QNA SA discrepancy
Tuesday, 02 Jul 2019 09:29 ET
By Rushil Walia
Summary
July 2019 -- For the quarterly national accounts of Sweden, seasonally adjusted series over the interval 1981 to 1992 diverge from the NSA series. This will be resolved in November.
Detail

During our routine QA checks, we observed a larger-than-usual inconsistency in eight pairs of as-reported SA and NSA series. In a direct communication, the source explained:

There are differences between seasonal adjusted and non-adjusted annual sums of quarterly GDP in the period 1981-1992. This is a drawback of our current seasonal adjustment methodology where the GDP-series starting at Q1 1993 is adjusted separately, using different methods, compared to the preceding period.

As many EU member states we are currently working on a benchmark revision of the National Accounts. Revised series will be published September 13th. The new series will at first begin in 1993. Corresponding series for 1981-1992 are scheduled to be published in November. At that time the methods for seasonal adjustment will be improved which should remove this particular discrepancy.

The series reside in the historical catalog (Sweden » National Accounts » by Expenditure | by Value Add » Quarterly) and are:
