Data Change: Switzerland - RSI - Rebased to 2015
Tuesday, 26 Jun 2018 15:15 ET
By Jaclyn Zylka
Summary
June 2018 -- For the detailed retail sales index for Switzerland, concurrent with dissemination of results for January, the source has advanced the base period from 2010 to 2015 (20 monthly series 2002 to 2017, replaced from 2000).
Detail

On 1 March 2018, the source wrote (citation, 2018-0241-E (pdf)):

New base year 2015:
The base year for the retail trade turnover statistics is updated every five years. Starting with the publication of results for January 2018, the index will be based on the annual average of 2015 (2015=100).

In response, we have:

  1. Archived the predecessors (2010=100, January 2002 to November 2007) by renaming with an "_10" specifier, by marking metadata as "discontinued", and by segregating in the catalog.
  2. Created one-for-one replacements (2015=100) with an unchanged start date.
  3. Assigned standardized mnemonics to the replacements.
  4. Refurbished metadata for the corresponding percent growth subset (24 monthly series).
  5. Refurbished the catalog.

Dataset properties:

  1. Activity classification: General Classification of Economic Activities 2008 (NOGA 2008), the adaptation of NACE Rev. 2
  2. Analytic forms: Volume index (Vol. Index 2015=100), value index (Index 2015=100)
  3. Adjustment: Calendar day and seasonally adjusted (CDASA)
  4. Frequency: Monthly
  5. Start date: January 2000

The active series reside in the historical catalog (Switzerland » Consumer » Retail sales index » 2015=100) and the predecessors under the associated "discontinued" node. They include, for example:

  • WRIRA47T_10CM.ICHE = [DISCONTINUED] Retail sales: Total except of motor vehicles and motorcycles, (Index 2010=100, CDASA)
  • WRI47CM.ICHE       = Total retail sector [47], (Index 2015=100, CDASA)
  • WRJRSMMICM.ICHE    = Via stalls and markets; mail order houses or internet [478; 479], (Vol. Index 2015=100, CDASA)

Because catalog locations are subject to change, the upper-right search box on DataBuffet.com provides a "find in catalog" mode that accepts a mnemonic.
