Data Change: Panama subnational - LFS - Geos
Thursday, 05 Jul 2018 10:41 ET
By Megan Hilaman
Summary
June 2018 -- The Panamá province has been fissioned into two new provinces: Panamá and Panamá Oeste. This change now applies to the subnational labor force summary (four annual series 2004 to 2015, replaced by eight from 2016).
Detail

The geographic change appears in the data, although there is no specific mention of it.

In response, we have:

  1. Archived the predecessors (one area, 1995 to 2015) by marking as "discontinued" in their metadata.
  2. Created two-for-one replacements (two areas, from 2016).

Figures are thousands of persons (Ths. #) or percent rate (%). The successor areas sum to the predecessor area.

The series reside in the historical catalog (Panama » Labor and Wages » Labor force status) and include, for example:

  • LWQLFTA.IPAN_PANA = [DISCONTINUED] Labor force, (Ths. #) - for Panamá [old] province
  • LWQEMTA.IPAN_PANM = Employed, (Ths. #) - for Panamá [new] province
  • LW%URTA.IPAN_PAOE = Unemployment rate, (%) - for Panamá Oeste province

Because catalog locations are subject to change, the upper-right search box on DataBuffet.com provides a "find in catalog" mode that accepts a mnemonic.
