Data Revision: Denmark subnational - HPI - Methodology
Friday, 28 Jun 2019 10:47 ET
By Rushil Walia
Summary
June 2019 -- For the "Price Index for Sales of Property" for Denmark, the source has altered its methodology (73 quarterly series revised from 1992).
Detail

We observed a change in the naming of data tables. In a direct communication, Statistics Denmark explained:

We are still using the SPAR-method to calculated the price indices. However, the new EJ-tables integrates the monthly, quarterly and yearly figures, meaning that the quarterly and yearly figures are now being derived directly from the calculated monthly figures instead of being calculated separately from raw data as in the EJEN-tables. This gives some different figures when we shift to a new year of appraisals (SPAR-method) whether you chain on a month, quarter or year.

That is:

  • Before: Quarterly figures are calculated from raw data, and are published in tables EJEN5 and EJEN55.
  • After: Quarterly figures are derived directly from the calculated monthly figures, and are published in EJ5 and EJ55.

Scope of revision:

  • Potentially all 73 series
  • Potentially all periods, from 1992Q1
Additionally, we have changed the "source" metadata on each series.

The series reside in the historical catalog (Denmark » Real Estate » Residential » Prices » Property price index) and include, for example:

  • HPITHOUUQ.IDNK     = One-family houses, (Index 2006=100, NSA)
  • HPITBNGUQ.IDNK_SYD = Weekend cottages - for Sydjylland [Province]
  • HPITAPTUQ.IDNK_KBO = Owner-occupied flats - for Københavns omegn [Province]

Because catalog locations are subject to change, the upper-right search box on DataBuffet.com provides a "find in catalog" mode that accepts a mnemonic.
