By Richard Grim
Summary
July 2019 -- For the BLS "Current Population Survey", Data Buffet now carries employment count and share by industry, sex, and race (1,750 new annual series from 2014, 3,943 defunct 1995 to 2013).
Detail

Dataset properties, all subsets:

  • Concepts:
    • Number of employed by industry

    • Percent of employed by industry and gender (women)

  • Native frequency: Annual

Defunct dataset 1:

  • Classification: 1990 Census Industrial Classification System
  • Archive specifier: "_I1990"
  • Date range: As early as 1995 to as late as 2002
  • Note 1: The BLS tables are not available for 2000 nor 2001
  • Note 2: Population controls are Census 1990 for 1995-1999 and Census 2000 for 2002

Defunct dataset 2:

  • Classification: NAICS 2002
  • Archive specifier: "_I2002"
  • Date range: As early as 2003 to as late as 2008

Defunct dataset 3:

  • Classification: NAICS 2007
  • Archive specifier: "_I2007"
  • Date range: As early as 2009 to as late as 2013

Active dataset:

  • Classification: NAICS 2012
  • Date range: As early as 2014 to present

The series reside in the historical catalog (United States » Labor markets » Employment » Household survey (CPS) » U.S. detailed » Annual Averages) and include, for example:

  • LBE23A.IUSA           = Employment: Construction - Ages 16 years and older, (Ths. #)
  • LBE213_I2002A.IUSA    = [DISCONTINUED] Employment: Support activities for mining - Ages 16 years and older, (Ths. #)
  • LBEO031B%_I1990A.IUSA = [DISCONTINUED] Percent of Employed: Forestry - Black - Ages 16 years and older, (%)
  • LBEO114F%_I2007A.IUSA = [DISCONTINUED] Percent of Employed: Fishing; hunting; and trapping - Female - Ages 16 years and older, (%)

Because catalog locations are subject to change, the upper-right search box on DataBuffet.com provides a "find in catalog" mode that accepts a mnemonic.

Please be aware that

The intervals 1995-1998 and 2002-2018 are not strictly comparable, because the population controls are different.
