New version of the North American Product Classification System Statistics Canada is updating the North American Product Classification System (NAPCS) Canada for merchandise import and export statistics. The NAPCS 2017 version will replace the NAPCS2007 version, which is currently in use.
In response, we have:
- Archived the predecessors (NAPCS 2007, 1988m1 to 2018m11) by renaming with an "_I07" specifier, marking metadata as "discontinued", and segregating in the catalog.
- Created replacements (NAPCS 2017) with an unchanged start date.
- Extended "total domestic exports" (TRLEXDMTTUM.ICAN) over the interval 1988m1 to 1996m12.
- Archived our SA supplement for "total domestic exports" (1988m1 to 2018m9) as TRLXD_I07AM.ICAN.
- Created replacement with standardized mnemonic TRLEXDMTTAM.ICAN and an unchanged start date.
Dataset properties:
- Classification: North American Product Classification System (NAPCS) 2017
- Valuation: Balance of payments (BOP)
- Measurement: Thousands of Canadian dollars (Ths. CAD) or millions thereof (Mil. CAD)
- Adjustment: Seasonally adjusted (SA) or not (NSA)
- Native frequency: Monthly
- Start date: As early as 1988m1
The active series reside in the historical catalog (Canada » Trade » International merchandise trade » BOP basis » By product, narrow category) and the predecessors under the associated "discontinued" node. They include, for example:
- BPLIMC124AM.ICAN = [DISCONTINUED] Trade: Imports - Electricity [C124] - BOP basis, (Mil. CAD, SA) - NAPCS 2007
- BPLIM125AM.ICAN = Trade: Imports - Electricity [C125] - BOP basis, (Mil. CAD, SA) - NAPCS 2017
- TRLEXDMTTUM.ICAN = Trade: Domestic exports - All merchandise - Customs basis, (Ths. CAD, NSA) - NAPCS 2017
Because catalog locations are subject to change, the upper-right search box on DataBuffet.com provides a "find in catalog" mode that accepts a mnemonic.
Please be aware that
For "total domestic trade"(TRLEXDMTTAM.ICAN, TRLEXDMTTUM.ICAN), the scale has changed from millions to thousands.
We notate the NAPCS code in square brackets in the description metadata.
