Motivation: Statistics Indonesia reports the labor force indicators at a semi-annual frequency in February and August. Our prior estimation method did not align with this.
Old methodology
- From 2005, frequency-convert from semi-annual to quarterly using discrete interpolation.
- Frequency-convert from quarterly to annual using discrete interpolation.
- Backfill (1985 to 2004) using growth rates of corresponding annual IMF series.
- Frequency-convert from annual to quarterly using cubic interpolation.
New methodology
- From 2005, frequency-convert from semi-annual to monthly by setting February and August to the reported values, then using cubic interpolation for the remaining periods.
- Frequency-convert from monthly to annual using discrete interpolation.
- Backfill (1997 to 2004) using growth rates of the predecessor annual series from Statistics Indonesia.
- Backfill (1985 to 1996) using growth rates of corresponding annual IMF series.
- Frequency-convert from annual to quarterly using cubic interpolation.
What you will see: All periods are revised. Properties are otherwise unchanged.
The series reside in the historical catalog (Indonesia » Labor and Wages » Labor force status » Moody's Analytics Estimated) and are:
- RLBFQ.IIDN = Labor force, (Ths. #, SA)
- RLBEQ.IIDN = Employed, (Ths. #, SA)
- RLBUQ.IIDN = Unemployed, (Ths. #, SA)
- RLBRQ.IIDN = Unemployment rate, (%, SA)
Because catalog locations are subject to change, the upper-right search box on DataBuffet.com provides a "find in catalog" mode that accepts a mnemonic.
