Motivation: Our pertinent national source, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics, reports the four standard labor force status measures for Egypt, but in not seasonally adjusted (NSA) terms.
Response: For analytical convenience, we have created seasonally adjusted (SA) counterparts for all four measures. Supplemental series of this kind carry a secondary source citation of "Moody's Analytics Adjusted". Expect revisions upon each update of the NSA fundamentals.
Properties
- Measurement:
- Thousands of persons (Ths. #)
- Percent (%)
- Adjustment: Seasonally adjusted (SA)
- Native frequency: Quarterly
- Start date: 2007Q1
- Geo coverage: Nation
The series reside in the historical catalog:
and are:
- LWQLFTAQ.IEGY = Labor force, (Ths. #, SA)
- LWQEMTAQ.IEGY = Employed, (Ths. #, SA)
- LWQUNTAQ.IEGY = Unemployed, (Ths. #, SA)
- LW%URTAQ.IEGY = Unemployment rate, (%, SA)
Method
- Seasonally adjust labor force using the U.S. Census Bureau's X-13 ARIMA program.
- Seasonally adjust the unemployment rate using X-13.
- Compute employment and unemployment as identities.
Our typical process is to adjust employment and unemployment, then construct the remaining two items as identities. However, the NSA dataset has a gap (2015Q1 to 2016Q3) in three of the series, with only the unemployment rate being contiguous; thus, we have inverted our choice of benchmark.
