By Skylar Bowman
Summary
June 2017 -- Data Buffet now carries the OECD "Residential Property Prices Indices" dataset (30 new monthly, 518 quarterly and 541 annual series from 1972).
Detail

Figures are percent change month-over-month, quarter-over-quarter or year-over-year (% M/M, % Q/Q, % Y/Y) or are indexed to 2010 (Index 2010=100). Most indicators are not seasonally adjusted (NSA) but some are repeated in seasonally adjusted form (SA). The series start as early as 1972. Geo coverage is 43 countries and three country-aggregates. Not all concept-geo combinations exist. The data dimensions are:

  • Frequency
  • Seasonal adjustment
  • Metric:
    • Sales, stock, other housing price index
    • Sales price, rent price, price-to-income ratio, price-to-rent ratio
  • Age of structure: Both, new, existing
  • Type of structure: Both, single-family, multi-family
  • Analytic form: Index, percent change
  • Geography

The series reside in the historical catalog (Cross-country datasets » OECD » Real estate) and include, for example:

  • OCPIRPNW01IXOBUM.ITUR = Residential real estate: Sales - Newly-built dwellings - All types, (Index 2010=100, NSA) - for Turkey
  • OCP%RPEX01GYAQ.IFRA   = Sales - Existing dwellings - All types, (% Y/Y, SA) - for France
  • OCP%RPSTEXGYUA.IKOR   = Stock - Existing dwellings - All types, (% CPPY, NSA) - for South Korea
  • OCPIRPIAQ.IEZ19       = Rent prices, (Index 2010=100, SA) - for 19-member euro zone
  • OCPIHPI_YDHUA.IESP    = Price to income ratio, (Index 2010=100) - for Spain

Because catalog locations are subject to change, the upper-right search box on DataBuffet.com provides a "find in catalog" mode that accepts a mnemonic.

Please be aware that:

  • There is wide variation in the residential real estate statistics collected by the countries in this collection, and the OECD does not attempt to harmonize them beyond a common index base year.
  • Some of the annual concepts are reported in seasonally adjusted form.
