We have marked the catalog and the individual series metadata as "discontinued." Figures are miles, thousands of miles, or persons. Geo coverage is the Federal-Aid Urbanized Areas of the U.S. The series start at 2002 or 2003 and end at 2007 or 2008.
The series reside in the historical catalog (United States » Consumer » Vehicles and driving » Roads - Highway length and use (DOT HM-71)) and include, for example:
- XDOTDVMLA.UA00631 = Daily vehicle-miles of travel - Local, (Ths. #) - for Aguadilla--Isabela--San Sebastian, PR
- XDOTMCA.UA11728 = Miles of road - Collector, (#) - for Burlington, NC
- XDOTPOPA.UA98182 = Estimated population, (Ths. #) - for Zephyrhills, FL
Because catalog locations are subject to change, the upper-right search box on DataBuffet.com provides a "find in catalog" mode that accepts a mnemonic.
Please be aware that:
- The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA or FHwA) is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT).
- Federal-Aid Urbanized Areas are similar to CBSAs.
- After the 2010 decennial census, the urbanized areas were adjusted ("a new geospatial model"), increasing from 456 to 484 areas. This standard was definitely used to report the 2013 data, whereas the standard applied to 2009 to 2012 was ambiguous.
