Data Change: Mexico - INEGI CPI - Rebased to 2018
Thursday, 13 Sep 2018 07:49 ET
By Edward Chaplin
Summary
September 2018 -- The Instituto Nacional de Estadística Geografia e Informática (INEGI) has advanced the base period for its version of the national consumer price index (INPC) from 2010 to 2018 (one monthly series 1957 to 2018, replaced from 1969). We have synchronized our SA supplement.
Detail

In response, we have:

  1. Archived the predecessor (base "second half of December 2010", January 1957 to July 2018) by renaming with an "_10" specifier, marking metadata as "discontinued", and segregating in the catalog.
  2. Created one-for-one replacement (base "second half of July 2018"). The start date is now January 1969.
  3. Extended the series to January 1957.
  4. Created a seasonally adjusted supplement.
  5. The associated COICOP detail is forthcoming.

The series is not seasonally adjusted (NSA).

The series reside in the historical catalog (Mexico » Price » Consumer price index » Summary » Monthly (INEGI)) and are:

  • CPITT_10UM.IMEX = [DISCONTINUED] Consumer Price Index - Total: INPC, (Index 2nd half Dec. 2010=100, NSA)
  • CPITTUM.IMEX = Consumer price index: National [INPC] - Total, (Index 2nd half Jul2018=100, NSA)
  • CPITTAM.IMEX = Consumer price index: National [INPC] - Total, (Index 2nd half Jul2018=100, SA)

Because catalog locations are subject to change, the upper-right search box on DataBuffet.com provides a "find in catalog" mode that accepts a mnemonic.
