Monday, 04 Mar 2019 14:53 ET
By Allyson Fry
Summary
January 2019 -- We have revised our estimates of disposable personal income in the U.S. by advancing the currency reference year from 2009 to 2012, to match the BEA's 2018 comprehensive update (over 7,000 quarterly series impacted).
Detail

Motivation: In the 2018 comprehensive update to NIPA, the currency reference year for chained-dollar figures was advanced by the BEA from 2009 to 2012.

Response: For analytical consistency, we have updated the currency reference year of our estimates of personal income to match.

What you will see: All real series for all areas revised from 1969 to 2017. Nominal series are unchanged.

Properties

  • Measurements: Nominal U.S. dollars (USD), millions thereof (Mil. USD), chained year-2012 U.S. dollars (Ch. 2012 USD), millions thereof (Mil. Ch. 2012 USD)
  • Adjustment: Seasonally adjusted annualized rates (SAAR)
  • Native frequency: Quarterly
  • Start date: 1969Q1
  • Geo coverage: Census regions and divisions, states, MSAs and metro divisions, counties
  • Additivity: Across geographies

The estimates reside in the historical catalog (United States » Income » Disposable Income » Moody's Analytics Estimates) and include, for example:

  • RYPDPIQ.GA         = Disposable personal income, (Mil. USD, SAAR) - for Georgia
  • RYPDPI$Q.GA        = Disposable personal income, (Mil. Ch. 2012 USD, SAAR) - for Georgia
  • RYPCDPIQ.IUSA_MATL = Per Capita Disposable Personal Income, (USD, SAAR) - for Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Roswell, GA metropolitan area
  • RYPCDPI$Q.GA015    = Per Capita Disposable Personal Income, (Ch. 2012 USD, SAAR) - for Barlow county, GA

Because catalog locations are subject to change, the upper-right search box on DataBuffet.com provides a "find in catalog" mode that accepts a mnemonic.

Method: Please see the background documentation in Mnemonic 411.
