Data Change: Japan - Synthetic Consumption Index - Rebased to 2011
Monday, 20 Feb 2017 00:22 ET
By Annie Kao, Jacky Cheung
Summary
January 2017 -- The synthetic consumption index for Japan captures monthly movements in the quarterly estimates of GDP. Its base year has been advanced by the source from 2005 to 2011 (one each monthly and quarterly series 1994-2016, replaced).
Detail

In response, we have archived the predecessor pair (2005=100, monthly January 1994 to September 2016, quarterly 1994Q1 to 2016Q2) by renaming with an "_05" specifier and by marking the metadata and catalog as "discontinued." The replacements (2011=100) start at January 1994. Figures are seasonally adjusted (SA).

The series reside in the historical catalog (Japan » Cyclical indicators » Synthetic consumption index) and are:

  • NAIPCIEAM.IJPN   = [DISCONTINUED] Real Private Consumption Index: Total, (2005=100, SA) - Monthly
  • CIIEACCSTAM.IJPN = (Vol. Index 2011=2010, SA) - Monthly
  • NAIPCIEAQ.IJPN   = [DISCONTINUED] (2005=100, SA) - Quarterly
  • CIIEACCSTAQ.IJPN = (Vol. Index 2011=2010, SA) - Quarterly

Because catalog locations are subject to change, the upper-right search box on DataBuffet.com provides a "find in catalog" mode that accepts a mnemonic.

Please be aware that:

  • The synthetic consumption index is inflation-adjusted (it is a volume index) and we have standardized the unit-descriptor to that effect.
  • We have standardized the replacement mnemonics.
