In an effort to harmonize its top-level data on public finance, the Banque National Suisse has replaced tables H2 and H3 with H1, and added projected periods (series are historical from 1990 to 2011 and projected from 2012 to 2017). In response, we have:
1. Marked 96 series as "discontinued." They run from 1990 through 2010; all figures are in millions of Swiss francs (Mil. CHF). The discontinued portion resides in the historical catalog (Switzerland » Government » Public Sector Finances) and includes, for example:
- GVLADMUA.ICHE = [DISCONTINUED] Expenditure general administration
- GVLTRVUA.ICHE = [DISCONTINUED] Total taxes
2. Added 13 new series from the new table H1, which covers four economic agents: the confederation (central government), cantons, municipalities, and social security schemes; plus their union, the public sector excluding double-counting. Gross debt ratios are reported per the Maastricht definition. Figures are in millions of Swiss francs (Mil. CHF) and percent (%). The new series include:
- GVLTBGBJUA.ICHE = Balance of social security schemes, (Mil. CHF)
- GV%LDGRJUA.ICHE = Municipal gross debt ratio, (%)
3. Taken this opportunity to harmonize mnemonics to facilitate cross-country retrieval and comparability. The projected series include a "J" specifier in their mnemonics. We renamed 12 existing series (please see the attachment), including:
- GVLCFBAUA.ICHE » GVLCBGBJUA.ICHE = Projected balance of the Confederation
- GVLLREVUA.ICHE » GVLLREVJUA.ICHE = Projected revenue of municipalities
Because catalog locations are subject to change, the upper-right search box on DataBuffet.com provides a "find in catalog" mode that accepts a mnemonic.
