The July 2018 results use a sample drawn in April 2018. Values from January 1998 to June 2018 and based on the April 2017 sample were replaced. These revisions apply only to the value of sales data; the related indexes of production volume are unaltered.
The classification is SIC 5, the localization of ISIC Rev. 3 (1990) (P2041 footnote 8). Figures are thousands of South African rands (Ths. ZAR). There are two analytic variants, seasonally adjusted (SA) or not (NSA). The series start at January 1998.
The series reside in the historical catalog (South Africa » Industry » Manufacturing » 2015=100 » Value) and include, for example:
- TNLVAMFAM.IZAF = Sales for all manufacturing [3], (SA)
- TNLVA34AM.IZAF = Glass, non-metallic mineral products [34], (SA)
- TNLVA36UM.IZAF = Electrical machinery [36], (NSA)
Because catalog locations are subject to change, the upper-right search box on DataBuffet.com, provides a "find in catalog" mode that accepts a mnemonic.
About the dataset
With the release of July data each year, Stats SA publishes sales data under a new survey sample. Re-sampling is conducted to account for the evolving nature of businesses and to capture changes related to new businesses, ceased businesses, merged businesses and classification changes.
With each sample revision, the source backcasts the entire history to January 1998 to create a complete, revised dataset.
