The Statistics Department of the Central Bank of Cyprus has today released the external data statistics (balance of payments, international investment position and external debt) for the second quarter of 2019 (2019Q2), as well as revised statistics for the period 2008-2018 and 2019Q1.

The Statistics Department of the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC) announces the completion of the major revision process for external statistics for the period 2008Q1-2019Q2, in accordance with the Harmonised European Revision Policy.
The revised external statistics data is the outcome of the incorporation of the following changes:
- Routine revisions, i.e. substitutions of preliminary estimates with final source data.
- Enhanced coverage of special purposes entities (SPEs). In the light of its commitment to the European Central Bank and Eurostat, the CBC enhanced the coverage of the said entities. This enlarged coverage affected considerably:
- imports of “financial intermediation services indirectly measured” (FISIM),
- exports of financial services (sum of cost approach),
- the gross figures of primary income and financial account categories and
- gross external debt.
- Adoption of new practices based on action points identified from the scheduled verification cycle of the sources and methods used for the compilation of Gross Domestic Product (GDP)/Gross National Income (GNI) estimates. The GDP/GNI verification is performed by Eurostat for all member states according to GNI Regulation (EU) 2019/156.
- Alignment of the reporting samples of the CBC with the corresponding ones of the Cyprus Statistical Service.
- Increase of the use of available administrative sources.
- Incorporation of the results of two new surveys (the new Shipowning Survey and the Current Transfers Survey)
- Inclusion of data on the basis of mirror data comparison with other EU countries.

Additionally, the revisions created isolated values in previously-theoretical and entirely-empty series. The following are new to Data Buffet:
