In the geographic hierarchy of the Netherlands, COROP (NUTS 3) areas are composed of municipalities.
In a recent direct communication, the source explained:
Municipality changes can indeed have an impact on COROP-areas, as was the case in 2018 with the forming of Midden-Groningen (GM1952) and the addition of part of Littenseradiel (GM0140) to Súdwest-Fryslân (GM1900).
Midden-Groningen was formed by combining the municipalities of Hoogezand-Sappemeer (GM0018), Slochteren (GM0040) and Menterwolde (GM1987). Midden-Groningen was assigned to COROP-area Overig Groningen (CR03), but Menterwolde used to be part of Oost-Groningen (CR01). The border between these two COROP-areas was therefore adjusted.
Littenseradiel was part of Noord-Friesland (CR04), but was split up and divided amongst surrounding municipalities in 2018. One of these was Súdwest-Fryslân, which is a municipality in Zuidwest-Friesland (CR05).
So, with the exception of Twente (CR12), the COROP-areas you mentioned have indeed had their borders adjusted in 2018.
In response, we have defined four replacement geo codes at the COROP level (old » new):
- INLD_OGR » INLD_OGN = Oost-Groningen CR01
- INLD_OVG » INLD_OVR = OverigGroningen CR03
- INLD_NFR » INLD_NRD = Noord-Friesland CR04
- INLD_ANI » INLD_ARN = Arnhem/Nijmegen CR15
