Motivation: Our national source, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), reports subnational population under two different programs with different combinations of properties:
- Census, decennial, with total population and one-year age brackets, from 1960
- "Continuous PNAD" sample survey, quarterly, with broad age brackets (0 to 13, 14 to 17, 18 to 24, 25 to 39, 40 to 59, 60 and older), from 2012Q1
Response: For international consistency, Moody's Analytics estimates population, by standardized broad age brackets (total, ages 0 to 14, 15 to 64, 65 and older), quarterly, from 1960Q1.
Properties
- Measurements: Thousands of persons (Ths. #)
- Adjustment: Seasonally adjusted (SA)
- Geo coverage:
- Country
- All states (26)
- Federal district (1)
- Start date: 1960Q1
The series reside in the historical catalog (Brazil » Demographics » Population » Moody's Analytics Estimated) and include, for example:
- RPOPQ.IBRA = Population - All ages, (Ths. #, SA) - for Brazil
- RPOP0014Q.IBRA_RJ = Ages 0-14 - for State of São Paulo
- RPOP1564Q.IBRA_SP = Ages 15-64 - for State of Rio de Janeiro
- RPOP65GQ.IBRA_BA = Ages 65 and older - for State of Bahia
Because catalog locations are subject to change, the upper-right search box on DataBuffet.com provides a "find in catalog" mode that accepts a mnemonic.
Method: Please refer to the background documentation in Mnemonic 411.
