Thursday, 28 May 2020 18:26 ET
By Megan Hilaman
Summary
May 2020 -- Data Buffet now carries the estimated levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) from the EIA "Annual Energy Outlook" report (eight new annual series from 2010) and corresponding analytic supplements.
Detail

Properties:

  • Measurements:
    • U.S. dollars at successive constant prices per megawatt-hour (Cons. USD per MWh)
    • U.S. dollars at constant year-2018 prices per megawatt-hour (2018 USD MWh)
  • Adjustment: Not applicable
  • Native frequency: Annual
  • Start date: 2010

The series reside in the historical catalog:

and include, for example:

  • NGLPDELXNSOLUA.IUSA  = Energy: Levelized costs for plants entering service in the future - Electricity excl. tax credit - Non-dispatchable technologies - Solar photovoltaic, (Cons. USD per MWh) - as reported
  • RNGLPDELXNSOLUA.IUSA = Moody's Analytics calculated

Please be aware that

The data are reported by EIA one year at a time, in each edition, which we have concatenated into time series; these results use successive currency base years. Because this impedes analysis, we have constructed corresponding series with a constant base year, viz., at 2018 prices. We used CPI-U as the deflator.

These are projections with a horizon of four to six years, and we have stored them by edition date. For example, the 2019 value is the projection for 2023, as reported in the 2019 edition of AEO. We cannot store them by projected date, because 2016 and 2022 are repeated and 2021 is omitted. Please see the background in Mnemonic 411.
