In Data Buffet, each time series can have multiple names: a canonical mnemonic and zero or moreĀ aliases. For key indicators, Data Buffet provides global concept aliases as a quick means to retrieve thematically related (but not necessarily comparable) series across multiple countries. For each alias, we pick the "best fit" or "most commonly quoted" series that is available in our repository.
For the house price index (HPI) for Japan (alias HPI.IJPN), we have changed the association from a semiannual series (part of the "Urban Land Price Index" from private source JREI) to a monthly series (part of the "Japan Residential Property Price Index" from government source MLIT). That is:
Before:
- CRILNUUS.IJPN
- Urban Land Price Index: Nationwide - Average of Three Categories, (Index 2000=100, NSA)
- Japan Real Estate Institute (JREI)
- Semiannual from 1985S1
After:
- HPIHOUUM.IJPN
- Real estate: Price - Residential - Detached house, (Index 2010=100, NSA)
- Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of Japan (MLIT): Japan Property Price Index and Property Transaction Volume
- Monthly from April 2008
If you have legacy baskets or other retrievals, upon next execution, you will see different values. If you have a schedule that uses either of these series as a trigger with the "any change" option, it will have re-executed (because altering the metadata of a series qualifies as "any change"). We strongly recommend that all retrievals include the description and source textual metadata fields.
