Data Change: Netherlands - QNA - Redefined and re-referenced
Monday, 23 Jul 2018 12:59 ET
By Rosemary Herrmann
Summary
July 2018 -- The source has implemented methodology changes in the quarterly national accounts, and has advanced the currency reference year from 2010 to 2015 (158 quarterly series 1995 to 2018, replaced by 162 from 1995).
Detail

On 22 June in its StatLine data portal, the source wrote (citation):

GDP, output and expenditures; value, QNA, 1995-2017
...
Table explanation
Changes as of June 22nd 2018:
Statistics Netherlands has carried out a revision of the national accounts. New statistical sources and estimation methods have been used during the revision. Therefore this table has been replaced by table GDP, output and expenditures; value, Quarterly National Accounts.

In response, we have:

  1. Archived the predecessors (reference year 2010, 1995Q1 to 2018Q1) by renaming with an "_10" specifier, by marking metadata as "discontinued," and by segregating in the catalog.
  2. Created one-for-one replacements (reference year 2015) that start at 1995.
  3. For completeness, added the "total disposable for final expenditure" item.
  4. Updated our seasonally adjusted supplements.
  5. Updated our implicit price deflator supplements.
  6. Refurbished the catalog.

The active series reside in the following historical catalogs and the predecessors under the associated "discontinued" nodes:

  • (Netherlands » National Accounts » by Expenditure » Quarterly » 2015)
  • (Netherlands » National Accounts » by Income » Quarterly » 2015)
  • (Netherlands » National Accounts » by Value Add » Quarterly » 2015)

They include, for example:

  • NACEGDP_10AQ.INLD   = [DISCONTINUED] Expenditure approach - GDP, (Mil. 2010 EUR, SA)
  • NALEGDPUQ.INLD      = Expenditure approach - GDP, (Mil. EUR, NSA)
  • NACITLS_10UQ.INLD   = [DISCONTINUED] Income approach - Taxes less subsidies, (Mil. 2010 EUR, NSA)
  • NALITLSAQ.INLD      = Income approach - Taxes less subsidies, (Mil. EUR, SA)
  • NACSGVAAF_10UQ.INLD = [DISCONTINUED] Production approach - GVA - Agriculture; forestry and fishing [A], (Mil. 2010 EUR, SA)
  • NACSGVAAFAQ.INLD    = Production approach - GVA - Agriculture; forestry and fishing [A], (Mil. 2015 EUR, SA)

Because catalog locations are subject to change, the upper-right search box on DataBuffet.com provides a "find in catalog" mode that accepts a mnemonic.

Please be aware that

CBS uses a presentation of the expenditure approach to GDP in which components sum to two separate totals, "total disposable for final expenditure" and "total final expenditure". These are numerically equal. In other countries, the pair are known as total demand (or use) and total supply, respectively. Because imports and exports are on opposite sides of this ledger, trade balance (exports less imports) must be tabulated separately.
