Thursday, 27 Apr 2017 16:42 ET
By Elizabeth Fitts
Summary
March 2017 -- Concurrent with dissemination of results for 2016Q2, the BEA has released numerous additional industries for quarterly GDP (gross output, intermediate inputs) (200 new quarterly series from 2012).
Detail

The BEA announced (citation, BEA 16-59):

Annual Update of the Industry Economic Accounts
The estimates released today reflect the results of the annual update of the industry economic accounts in conjunction with newly available statistics for GDP by industry for the second quarter of 2016. [...]
Major improvements introduced with this update include:
Expansion of quarterly GDP by industry detail. Estimates of real gross output and intermediate inputs are now available.

The series start at 2012Q1. Figures are billions of chained year-2009 dollars (Bil. Ch. 2009 USD). Detailed industries are to the three-digit NAICS level.

The series reside in the historical catalog (United States » National Accounts » Gross domestic product by Industry » 2007 NAICS » Gross output | Intermediate inputs » Quarterly » Underlying detail » Real Gross Output | Real Intermediate Inputs) and include, for example:

Real gross output:

  • GODD1$Q.IUSA      = All industries, (Bil. Ch. 2009 USD, SAAR)
  • GODGVD1$Q.IUSA    = Government, (Bil. Ch. 2009 USD, SAAR)
  • GODGOODPD1$Q.IUSA = Private goods-producing industries [2], (Bil. Ch. 2009 USD, SAAR)

Real intermediate inputs:

  • GOID1$Q.IUSA      = All industries, (Bil. Ch. 2009 USD, SAAR)
  • GOI42D1$Q.IUSA    = Wholesale trade, (Bil. Ch. 2009 USD, SAAR)
  • GOI485D1$Q.IUSA   = Transit and ground passenger transportation, (Bil. Ch. 2009 USD, SAAR)

Because catalog locations are subject to change, the upper-right search box on DataBuffet.com provides a "find in catalog" mode that accepts a mnemonic.
