Discontinued Data: U.S. - Semiconductor bookings
Tuesday, 07 Mar 2017 17:59 ET
By Skylar Bowman
Summary
March 2017 -- As of January 2017, in measuring North American manufacture of equipment to produce semiconductors, the source has terminated the order ("bookings") volume and derived book-to-bill ratio (two monthly series discontinued, 1991-2016).
Detail

The source explained (citation)

SEMI ceased publishing the monthly North America book-to-bill report in January 2017.  The decision to discontinue the book-to-bill report was based on changes in reporting by some participants where the reporting of orders/bookings into the data collection program is no longer considered a necessary component of their industry analysis.

In response, we have marked the series as "discontinued" in their metadata and the catalog. The series run from January 1991 to December 2016. Figures are millions of U.S. dollars three-month moving average (Mil. USD, 3-mo MA) and a ratio (Ratio), not seasonally adjusted (NSA).

The series reside in the historical catalog (United States » Industry » Semiconductors » Book-to-Bill Ratio) and include, for example:

  • XSEMIBB.IUSA = [DISCONTINUED] Semiconductor Equipment Book-to-Bill, (Ratio, NSA)
  • XSEMIBK.IUSA = [DISCONTINUED] Semiconductor Equipment Bookings, (Mil. USD, 3-mo MA, NSA)

Note that the shipment ("billings") volume continues to be reported:

  • XEMISHP.IUSA = Semiconductor Equipment Billings, (Mil. USD, 3-mo MA, NSA)

Because catalog locations are subject to change, the upper-right search box on DataBuffet.com provides a "find a catalog" mode that accepts a mnemonic.
