In response, we have:
- Archived the predecessors (one geo, 2001 to 2016) by marking metadata as discontinued.
- Created two-for-one placements (two geos, from 2001).
- Added the remaining 19 reported geos at the SA4 level for each state.
- Harmonized concept codes for all-ages population for both sexes, males, and females.
- Refurbished all metadata descriptions.
(1) and (2) The geo change is:
- Before:
- IAUS_508 = Western Australia - Outback
- After:
- IAUS_510 = Western Australia - Outback North
- IAUS_511 = Western Australia - Outback South
(3) The 19 new geos express artificial or non-physical status:
- IAUS_^97 = Migratory - Offshore - Shipping
- IAUS_^99 = Special-purpose codes
(4) The concept code changes are systematic as follows (old » new). We have renamed these series to harmonize and facilitate cross-country retrieval, but have preserved prior mnemonics as aliases, so legacy retrievals will continue to operate (i.e., backwards compatibility).
- VSQPOPUA » VSQPOPTTUA = Both sexes, all ages
- VSQPOPMUA » VSQPOPMTUA = Male, all ages
- VSQPOPFUA » VSQPOPFTUA = Female, all ages
Dataset properties:
- Measurement: Unitary count of persons (#)
- Native frequency: Annual
- Start date: 2001
Series reside in the historical catalog (Australia » Demographics » Population » Annual » by 5-year Age Cohort) and include, for example:
- VSQPOPTTUA.IAUS_511 = Vital Statistics: Estimated Resident Population at 30 June - Total, (#) - for Western Australia - South
- VSQPOPT0409UA.IAUS_510 = Both sexes - Ages 4 to 9, (#) - for Western Australia - North
- VSQPOPF0004UA.IAUS_197 = Female - Ages 0 to 4 - for Migratory-Offshore-Shipping (New South Wales)
- VSQPOPM85GUA.IAUS_299 = Male - Ages 85 and older - for No usual address (Victoria)
Because catalog locations are subject to change, the upper-right search box on DataBuffet.com provides a "find in catalog" mode that accepts a mnemonic.
