Friday, 21 Sep 2018 10:05 ET
By Jaclyn Zylka
Summary
July 2018 -- For quarterly national accounts, concurrent with dissemination of results for 2018Q1, the source has advanced the currency reference year from 2005 to 2015 (18 quarterly series from 1994 to 2018, replaced by 14 series from 2005).
Detail

On 15 May, the source wrote (citation):

That is:

The change of base year 2015 was developed during the last five years, following an agenda agreed with the OECD, and with technical assistance from the Monetary Fund International throughout the process.

Today, May 15, 45 days after the end of the quarter, is the date foreseen in the agenda, for the publication of the GDP results for the first quarter 2018, calculated at from the new base year 2015.

From this first publication, the quarterly series with base year 2015 is presented, from the year 2005 until the first quarter of 2018.

In response, we have:

  1. Corrected the mnemonics NA(C,L)CIAQ.ICOL to NA(C,L)ECIAQ.ICOL.
  2. Archived the 18 predecessors (base year 2005, SA, 2000Q1 to 2017Q4) by renaming with an "_05" specifier, marking metadata as "discontinued", and by segregating in the catalog.
  3. Where possible, created one-for-one replacements (base year 2015, CDASA, from 2005Q1).
  4. Dropped "total supply".
  5. Added "final consumption expenditure" and "trade balance".
  6. Extended the series to 1994Q1.
  7. Transplanted global concept aliases to the active series.

Dataset properties:

  • Framework: UN SNA 1993
  • Measurement: Billions of Colombian pesos at current prices (Bil. COP) or constant year-2015 prices (Bil. 2015 COP)
  • Adjustment: Calendar day and seasonally adjusted (CDASA)
  • Native frequency: Quarterly
  • Start date: 2005Q1
  • Subject to revisions? Yes, every quarter
  • Lag: 1 quarter

The active series reside in the historical catalog (Colombia » National Accounts » by Expenditure » Quarterly » Ref 2015) and the predecessors under the associated "discontinued" node. They include, for example:

  • NACEGDP_05AQ.ICOL = [DISCONTINUED] National accounts: Expenditure approach - Gross Domestic Product, (Bil. 2005 COP, SA)
  • NACEGDPCQ.ICOL    = GDP [B.1b], (Bil. 2015 COP, CDASA)
  • NALEFCHNCQ.ICOL   = Final consumption expenditure - Households and NPISHs [P.311; P.313; P.323], (Bil. COP, CDASA)

Because catalog locations are subject to change, the upper-right search box on DataBuffet.com provides a "find in catalog" mode that accepts a mnemonic.
