Sunday, 07 Oct 2018 19:37 ET
By Jacky Cheung
Summary
October 2018 -- Data Buffet now carries the CoreLogic Hedonic Home Value Index for the eight capital city-aggregate of Australia (one new monthly series from 1980).
Detail

Dataset properties:

  • Measurement: Fixed-base value index relative to 31 December 2009 (Index 31Dec2009=100)
  • Adjustment: Seasonally adjusted (SA)
  • Geo coverage: Aggregate of the capital cities of the eight states of Australia
  • Native frequency: Monthly
  • Start date: January 1980

The series resides in the historical catalog (Australia » Real estate » Residential » House price Index » CoreLogic) and is:

  • HPICLHAM.IAUS_CAP = Real estate: Hedonic home value index - Houses, (Index 31Dec2009, SA) - for aggregate of eight capital cities.

Because catalog locations are subject to change, the upper-right search box on DataBuffet.com provides a "find in catalog" mode that accepts a mnemonic.

About the dataset

Although they start with transaction prices (local market movements), hedonic indexes control for compositional change in a market by using the characteristics of each property (bedrooms, bathrooms, lot size, location, etc.).

CoreLogic's full product includes both monthly and daily time series; our extract consists of the former. It contains a range of subnational areas with geographic coverage outside the capital cities.

The overarching name of the product is "CoreLogic Hedonic Home Value Index" although it's sometimes called the "CoreLogic Australia Residential Property Index Series." The source was previously known as "CoreLogic RP Data" but is now simply "CoreLogic", although they sometimes identify themselves as "CoreLogic Australia," a wholly-owned subsidiary.
