On 30 May, as part of the second estimate of GDP, for the first time results were reported using currency reference year ("base year") 2014 (citation).
In response, we have:
- Archived the predecessors (base year 2010) by renaming with an "_10" specifier, marking metadata as discontinued, and segregating in the catalog.
- Created one-for-one replacements (base year 2014).
- Created replacements for our supplements (pending).
- Assigned standardized mnemonics to both the predecessors and replacements (see attachment).
- Refurbished metadata.
Dataset properties:
- National accounts framework: ESA 2010
- Measurements: Millions of nominal euros (Mil. EUR), millions of chained year-2014 euros (Mil. Ch. 2014 EUR), percent (%), or quarter-over-quarter percent change (% Q/Q)
- Adjustment: Seasonally adjusted (SA) or working day adjusted and seasonally adjusted (WDASA)
- Native frequency: Quarterly
- Start date: As early as 1949Q1
The active series reside in the historical catalog (France » National accounts » By expenditure » Quarterly » Ref 2014) and the predecessors under the associated "discontinued" node. They include, for example:
- NAHEGDP_10CQ.IFRA = [DISCONTINUED] Gross domestic product, (Mil. Ch. 2010 EUR, WDASA)
- NALEFCHHCQ.IFRA = Final consumption expenditure [P3], (Mil. EUR, WDASA)
- NAHEDFIMCQ.IFRA = Deflators - Imports, (Mil. Ch. 2014 EUR, WDASA)
And under (... » By institutional sector » Households » Quarterly), including:
- NALNZHHBYDG_10CQ.IFRA = [DISCONTINUED] Gross disposable income, (Mil. EUR, WDASA)
- NALNZHHUTOYAQ.IFRA = Income taxes, (Mil. EUR, SA)
- NALNZHHBYDAGCQ.IFRA = Gross adjusted disposable income, (Mil. EUR, WDASA)
Because catalog locations are subject to change, the upper-right search box on DataBuffet.com provides a "find in catalog" mode that accepts a mnemonic.
In the attachment, the base-2010 series (col C, purple) have been archive-renamed (col D, blue) and aliased (col E, green) to match the active base-2014 series (col F, red). The INSEE Idbank codes for base-2010 and -2014 are in cols A and B, respectively.
About the dataset
For inflation adjustment, INSEE uses a chaining method with a base year. The base year is advanced periodically, usually by five years. The subsets are labeled "chained to previous year's prices"; this is not a special method, but merely makes explicit the typical method, as described in Eurostat documents.
INSEE labels the items with ESA codes, but has augmented the codeset:
- P54 = P52+P53 = change in inventories plus acquisitions less disposals of valuables
- P51 = gross fixed capital formation. P51S, P51B, P51G, P51M and P51P refer to the institutional sectors S11, S12, S13, S14 and S15.
