The U.S. Employment and Training Administration (ETA) reports detailed unemployment insurance (UI) figures for the U.S. and for 53 states and state-like areas, but the former are not in a form that Data Buffet can harvest directly, so instead we reconstitute the national figures.
Due to the recent hurricanes (see related article), authorities in the U.S. Virgin Islands have not reported UI figures for September or October; ETA has produced interim estimates (see related article), but does not include them in the standard subnational data file. Hence, our republished series for USVI, and our reconstituted series for the U.S., are lagged; they end at August.
The series reside in the historical catalog (United States » Labor markets » Unemployment Insurance Claims » Unemployment insurance claims (ETA)) and include, for example:
- XUNI.IUSA = Initial unemployment claims, (#, NSA) - for the U.S.
- XUIGMM.VI = Insured unemployment - Male, (#, NSA) - for USVI
We are monitoring the situation and will update Data Buffet when possible.
