New Estimates: Nigeria - GDP(E)
Wednesday, 12 Apr 2017 15:32 ET
By Dylan Horst
Summary
April 2017 -- For international consistency, Moody's Analytics now estimates gross domestic product by expenditure for Nigeria (25 new quarterly series from 1960).
Detail

Motivation: For the components of the expenditure approach to gross domestic product for the country of Nigeria, multi-national sources report limited history at an annual frequency.

Response: For international consistency, we have estimated a full set of the components of GDP(E), at current and constant prices (a.k.a. nominal and real terms) and deflators, at a quarterly frequency.

Properties:

  • Measurement: Millions of Nigerian naira, at current prices (Mil. NGN) or constant year-2005 prices (Mil. 2005 NGN), or deflators indexed to 2005
  • Adjustment: Seasonally adjusted annual rate (SAAR)
  • Frequency: Quarterly
  • Start date: 1960Q1 for GDP, 1970Q1 for components
  • Additivity: Aggregates equal the sums of components
  • Geo coverage: Nation

The estimates reside in the historical catalog (Nigeria » National Accounts » by Expenditure » Moody's Analytics Estimated) and include, for example:

  • RNALEGDPAQ.INGA = Gross domestic product, (Mil. NGN, SAAR)
  • RNACECGAQ.INGA  = Government consumption, (Mil. 2005 NGN, SAAR)
  • RPDIIAQ.INGA    = Deflator - Gross capital formation, (Index 2005=100, SA)

Because catalog locations are subject to change, the upper-right search box on DataBuffet.com provides a "find in catalog" mode that accepts a mnemonic.
