In response, we have:
- Discontinued the aggregate "other services including information and communication, finance and insurance, real estate, public service, education and health".
- Added its five components.
- Added the branch "manufacturing".
- Where possible, replaced Moody's Analytics-adjusted series with FSO-reported series.
- Refurbished the catalog.
Dataset properties:
- Activity classification: WZ 2008, the localization of NACE Rev. 2
- Measurement: Thousands of persons (Ths. #)
- Adjustments:
- Seasonally adjusted (SA)
- Not seasonally adjusted (NSA)
- Native frequency: Quarterly
- Start date: 1991Q1
The series reside in the historical catalog:
- Germany » National Accounts » Branch accounts » Employment by activity » Quarterly
- Germany » National Accounts » Branch accounts » Employment by activity » Discontinued » 1991 to 2019Q2
And include, for example:
- NAQEMSVNECAQ.IDEU = [DISCONTINUED] Employment: Other services; including information and communication; financial and insurance services; real estate; public service; education and health, (Ths. #, SA)
- NAQEMICUQ.IDEU = Employment: Information and communication, (Ths. #, NSA)
Please be aware that
This dataset uses a common European sequence of NACE activity aggregates, such that "industry" is an aggregate meaning "heavy industry: mining, manufacturing, utilities, but not construction".
- Industry excl. construction
- Of which: Manufacturing
- Construction
Other European sources define the "industry" aggregate to include construction. Data Buffet has consistent concept codes for the two definitions.
Because three of the branches (mining and quarrying; electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning; water, sewerage, waste management) are not reported, we depict "manufacturing" in the catalog as an indented item with the preamble "of which:" to indicate it does not sum to its parent.
Note the difference in European vs. U.S. terminology. Under the NACE classification, each branch is called an "activity", whereas under NAICS, each is an "industry".
