Motivation: Our pertinent national source, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (Egypt), recently rebased the CPI and truncated its history to September 2019, i.e., nine years were dropped. Prior to the rebasing, we had extended the series to January 1957. Initially we were unable to re-extend due to the lack of overlap of the base-2010 and -2019 series, but we have obtained one additional year of history, i.e., to September 2018.
Response
- Re-extended the as-reported series.
- Recomputed our seasonally adjusted supplement.
What you will see
- The as-reported NSA series CPITTUM.IEGY gains 61 years of history, i.e., its start date changes from 2018m9 to 1957m1.
- The source metadata gains an explanatory notation.
- Our SA supplement CPITTAM.IEGY is rebased and consequently revised over all periods.
The series reside in the historical catalog:
Method
- Extend as-reported CPITTUM.IEGY over the interval 2009m8 to 2018m8 using the growth rates of its immediate predecessor (CPITT_10UM.IEGY, Jan2010=100, reported 2009 to 2019).
- Extend over the interval 1957m1 to 2009m7 using an IMF series (IMFIFSIPCPIUM.IEGY, 2010=100, reported from 1957m1).
- Create a new CPITTAM.IEGY using the U.S. Census Bureau's X-13 ARIMA program.
