What is the motivation?
Starting in 2016, our national source for Slovenia has been adapting its datasets from NUTS 2010 to NUTS 2013 (see related article). Moody's Analytics constructs its estimates to be consistent over time and to use the latest definitions; in this case, geographic definitions.
NUTS, the Uniform Nomenclature for Territorial Statistics, is a statistical geographical classification that describes members of the European Union, candidate countries, and EFTA. NUTS is based upon national geographic classifications and is updated every three years to reflect changes enacted by each country. Although officially used only by Eurostat, NUTS-equivalent areas are often used by national sources (and for convenience, Data Buffet uses the same geo codes).
Which Moody's Analytics estimated releases were impacted?
- Population
- Labor force status (LFS)
- Employment by industry
- Compensation
- Household disposable income
- Gross value added by industry (GVA)
- House price index
- Construction permits
- Retail sales
What did and did not change among the estimates?
Concept codes are unchanged.
Estimated series using the predecessor (NUTS 2010) geo codes have been deleted. Subsequent attempts to retrieve them, via legacy baskets or other mechanisms, will elicit the "series not found" message. These geo codes are:
- NUTS level 2 areas: ISVN_VS ISVN_ZS
- NUTS level 3 areas: ISVN_SAV ISVN_ZAS ISVN_SPO ISVN_OSR
Estimated series using the new (NUTS 2013) geo codes have been created. If legacy baskets use geo wild cards (ISVN_^^ and ISVN_^^^), the new series will automatically be retrieved upon next execution; otherwise you will need to amend your basket.
Surviving series (that is, those applicable to unchanged geos) may have been revised based on revisions to historical data associated with the geo change.
Among releases, start dates vary. Within a release, start dates are unchanged; that is, the new series have the same length of history as surviving series. The only exception is Population, which now starts a year earlier.
