Mnemonic Change: Canada - Population
Monday, 02 Jul 2018 16:55 ET
By Daniel Luckenbach
Summary
June 2018 -- For our total-population estimates for Canada, we have standardized the mnemonics (two quarterly series impacted).
Detail

1. We have renamed two series. For our national-level population estimates, in both seasonally adjusted (SA) and not seasonally adjusted (NSA) terms, we have renamed the series. We have preserved the prior mnemonics as "aliases", so if you have a legacy basket or other retrievals, existing references will still return the relevant data series.

The series reside in the historical catalog (Canada » Demographics » Population » Moody's Analytics Estimates) and the changes are (old » new):

  • RVSQPOPAQ.ICAN » RPOPQ.ICAN  = Population: Both sexes - Total, (Persons, SA)
  • RVSQPOPUQ.ICAN » XRPOPQ.ICAN = Population: Both sexes - Total, (Persons, NSA)

2. Removed alias from source-reported series. Previously, the mnemonic RPOPQ.ICAN was aliased to refer to the source-reported total VSQPOPAQ.ICAN. If you have a legacy basket or other retrievals, RPOPQ.ICAN will now return our estimated series, so you will need to edit the basket to use the proper mnemonics.

We strongly recommend that all baskets include the "description" and "source" headers.
