New Data: Germany - HCPI - SA
Monday, 20 Aug 2012 18:14 ET
By Isobel Rubin
Summary
August 2012 -- To supplement the reported harmonized CPI for Germany, Moody's Analytics has computed a seasonally adjusted version (one monthly series from 1995).
Detail

Motivation: The Federal Statistical Office of Germany reports the harmonized consumer price index (HCPI or CPI-H) in not seasonally adjusted (NSA) terms, from January 1995.

Response: For international consistency, Moody's Analytics has computed a seasonally adjusted (SA) counterpart series.

Properties: The monthly index starts at January 1995, and has a base value of 100 for year 2005 (i.e., the monthly index values over 2005 average to approximately 100).  Expect our SA series to be revised with each new historical value appended to the NSA fundamentals.

Method:

  1. Seasonally adjust the reported harmonized consumer price index using the Census Bureau's X-12 ARIMA program.  This is CPIHTTAM.IDEU.
