Wednesday, 21 Aug 2019 11:48 ET
By Amy Berdanier
Summary
June 2019 -- Moody's Analytics now computes seasonally adjusted counterparts for select series from the National Continuous Household Sample Survey (PNADC/T) for Brazil and its states, viz., population by age and the four labor force status measures (249 new quarterly series from 2012).
Detail

Motivation: Our national source, Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), reports quarterly household survey data, but only in not seasonally adjusted terms (NSA).

Response: For analytic convenience, we have created counterparts that are seasonally adjusted (SA).

Properties: Expect our SA series to be revised with each update to the NSA series. Supplemental series of this kind are identified by a secondary source citation of "Moody's Analytics Adjusted" or "Moody's Analytics Calculated".

  • Measurements: Thousands (Ths. #) or percent (%)
  • Adjustment: Seasonally adjusted (SA)
  • Geo coverage: Country, all 27 federated units (26 states and federal district)
  • Frequency: Quarterly
  • Start date: 2012Q1
  • Concept coverage: Population by age, labor force status quartet
  • Do all concept-geo pairs exist: No

The estimates reside in the historical catalog (Brazil » Labor and Wages » Household survey » Quarterly, PNAD » Population by age) and (... PNAD » Subnational » Population by age | Labor force status) and include, for example:

  • VSQPOPT60GAQ.IBRA_SP = Vital statistics: Population - Both sexes - Ages 60 and older, (Ths. #, SA) - for State of São Paulo
  • LWQPOP1824AQ.IBRA    = Labor: Population - Ages 18 to 24, (Ths. #, SA)
  • LWQLFTAQ.IBRA_RJ     = Labor force - Both sexes, (Ths. #, SA) - for State of Rio de Janeiro

Because catalog locations are subject to change, the upper-right search box on DataBuffet.com provides a "find in catalog" mode that accepts a mnemonic.
