New Data: U.S. - BLS household employment - Non-Hispanic ethnicity
Thursday, 06 Apr 2017 12:07 ET
By Richard Grim
Summary
March 2017 -- With the February 2017 Current Population Survey ("the household survey"), the BLS has added the demographic distinction "Non-Hispanic" (96 new monthly series, from 2016).
Detail

Figures are thousands of persons (Ths. #) or percent (%) not seasonally adjusted (NSA). The series start at January 2016.

The series reside in the historical catalog (United States » Labor markets » Employment » Household survey (CPS) » U.S. detailed » ... » Demographics » By ethnicity, age, gender, and race) and include, for example:

  • XLBUNHWT.IUSA = Number of unemployed: Non-Hispanic - White - Both sexes - 16 years or older, (Ths. #, NSA)
  • XLBANHBF.IUSA = Ratio civilian employment to population: Non-Hispanic - Black - Female - 16 years or older, (%, NSA)
  • XLBNNHF.IUSA  = Not in labor force: Non-Hispanic - Female - 16 years or older, (Ths. #, NSA)

Because catalog locations are subject to change, the upper-right search box on DataBuffet.com provides a "find in catalog" mode that accepts a mnemonic.

Please be aware that:

  • For our extract of the CPS, the BLS identifier is notated in square brackets in the "source" metadata. For example, XLBUNHWT.IUSA is marked as LNU03092172. These codes can be used at the "Series Report" tool to retrieve the BLS's own metadata.
