On 14 November 2018, the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis wrote (citation):
The estimates of 2018:Q2 GDP by state incorporate the results of BEA's comprehensive update of GDP by state also released today. The update revised North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) estimates of GDP by state for 1997 to 2017 and quarterly NAICS estimates for 2005:Q1 to 2018:Q1. The update incorporates source data that are more complete and detailed than previously available, and the results of the 2018 comprehensive updates of the National Income and Product Accounts, Industry Economic Accounts, and State Personal Income Accounts. In addition, the update includes industry definitions consistent with the 2012 NAICS.
In response, we have:
- Archived all prior data under systematically modified mnemonics, for example: GDPQ_2017.PA
- Revised existing series.
- Updated unit-descriptors to match BEA:
- Advanced the currency reference period from 2009 to 2012.
- Quantity indexes will be expressed as 2012=100.
- Updated industries from NAICS 2007 to NAICS 2012.
- Changed the scale from millions to thousands for these components:
- Taxes on production and imports less subsidies
- Compensation of employees
- Subsidies
- Taxes on production and imports
- Gross operating surplus
- Where necessary, created new mnemonics for new tables.
- Added 2,882 new quarterly series (5,762 total).
- Added 6,577 new annual series (49,200 total).
- Standardized mnemonics.
Start dates are unchanged.
The dataset resides in the historical catalog (United States » National accounts » Gross domestic product - US, State, MSA » 2012 NAICS). Because catalog locations are subject to change, the upper-right search box on DataBuffet.com provides a "find in catalog" mode that accepts a mnemonic.

If when retrieving archived series you receive the message "Series found: database closed" you will need to activate databanks IUSA_BEA_GDPSTQ_2017.db and IUSA_BEA_GDPST_2017.db, under menu:Settings » Default Databanks.
